Synopsis
When Sophia — Colombian, voluptuous, and the spitting image of a famous TV personality walks into a coffee shop in Three Egg, Georgia, nobody can quite believe their eyes. Least of all the barista Jimbo, who nearly drops her espresso.
Three Egg is no ordinary town. Cars are banned. Everything is free. The furniture is cardboard. Improbably, it works. Thanks to a homeless man on a bicycle, a generous widow, and a Harvard-educated accountant who has been sleeping with his assistant for twenty years. Sophia has come looking for her biological father and ends up finding community, a platonic boyfriend, a Vietnamese restaurant called Pho You, and enough stories to fill a book.
The novel is told in a lighthearted and racy manner through humorous dialogues, But the tenor of the novel changes drastically when ICE raids the town. Though the raid veers the novel into a very serious tone, it ends on an upbeat note. Sofia of Viagra is a comic novel about love, economics, immigration, and the difference between contentment and happiness. Told by a Colombian woman who learns ten new English words a day and still can’t figure out what grits are.
